Introductions, part deux

Who am I? Well, obviously, I like to quilt. But I have always been a bit reluctant to be identified primarily as a quilter, hence the name of this blog. I think it’s because I don’t consider myself a ‘typical’ quilter, although I’m sure there could be much discussion over what is a ‘typical’ quilter. Based on articles I read in quilting magazines and other sources, I do feel that I just don’t really fit in with most other quilters and their preferences in quilts. I will go into that further as we go along.

The other factor is that I am still a little bit surprised myself that I like to quilt. I have never been interested in sewing in general and resisted all attempts when I was younger to do any sewing at all. I’m not into fashion and I’m not into old fashioned furnishings or styles. So I’m still trying to figure out myself why I love it so much, and I have some ideas on that, but what really matters is that I like to do it. But since it is in no way the only thing I like to do, this blog will meander in and around quilting and often take huge detours. In other words, I’m just going to write about a lot of different things as I think of them. Raven doesn’t care!

Introductions, part one

Greeting you at Reluctant Quilter is my champion lounge dog, Raven, the extra large Standard Poodle. This picture perfectly shows one of her main talents– sleeping on one of my quilts. She particularly likes to stretch out on top of whatever quilt I may have laid out on the floor for pinning. I know she just wants to be close, but it can make the job of laying out a quilt to be a bit of a challenge. She is, however, always looking for love so I have a hard time getting mad at her. I just have to lure her away with a toy or a treat and carry on until the next time she comes over and plops herself down. She is not small and can stretch that long, lean body across an entire queen size quilt when necessary. She’s a champion!

A Long Time Getting Started

It only took me nearly two years to start blogging after obtaining this site, but I am finally on my way. Some might think that this will be about quilting, but I think that much more will be covered. This is an experiment, as I imagine many people who start blogging view their efforts. Bear with me as I navigate this new world of blogging.
